The key to health: understanding the doshas @ Beloved Yoga

The key to health: understanding the doshas @ Beloved Yoga | Reston | Virginia | United States

4-week series,
Thursdays Feb. 16-March 9 6:00-8:30pm

To understand Ayurveda’s distinctive approach to balancing health, we must understand that the Universe is made up of a combination of five elements:
air, water, earth, fire and ether; these elements are further manifested into three distinct energies, with their own attributes and functions, which
identify every human being as a unique entity. These energies, called doshas, make up our physical and emotional constitution which were defined at
the time of our conception, and which affect our physical, emotional and spiritual health over our lifetime.

This four week program is designed to provide you with the understanding, guidelines and tools to achieve a life of balance based on the wisdom and beauty the ancient sciences of Ayurveda and Yoga. The four sessions will provide the student with the foundations of Ayurveda, and guide them through a deeper understanding of the doshas by exploring asana, herbs, and lifestyle practices designed to enjoy a healthier, happier life!

Part 1: Finding your Mind/Body Balance: Improve your health and well-being through Ayurvedic living.

Part 2: Vata dosha

Part 3: Pitta dosha

Part 4: Kapha dosha

What It Means to Be Greener: Ecolabels and Standards for Environmentally Preferable Products @ Navy League | Arlington | Virginia | United States

Please join us at the 39th annual meeting of Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment. This year’s meeting will feature a panel discussion on the trends, progress, and standards in the labeling of sustainable products. Our panelists are experts in the field of sustainability. Alison Kinn Bennett is senior advisor for sustainable products and purchasing at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She currently leads the EPA’s pilot effort to develop guidelines for assessing environmental performance standards and ecolabels for use in federal purchasing. Jason Holstine of the Amicus Green Building Center has more than fourteen years’ experience helping consumers, businesses, governments, and non-government organizations (NGOs) implement sustainability goals and projects. He has served on the boards of both Chesapeake Climate Action Network and GreenHome.

The meeting will also include exhibits from local green businesses, an overview of ACE programming for 2017, and the election of the ACE board of directors. We’ll serve light refreshments.

Heroes for Moms - Blood Drive and Maternal Health Event @ Alexandria Beatley Library | | |

When women hemorrhage after childbirth, blood donations must be available in case a blood transfusion is necessary to prevent the mother’s death. You can help by giving blood on Mother’s Day weekend and being a hero for moms!

Free and open to the public! Join us on Mother’s Day weekend for a family-friendly blood drive and maternal health awareness event dedicated to saving the lives of mothers. The blood drive will draw attention to Placenta Accreta – a serious pregnancy complication that can cause catastrophic hemorrhaging, and where blood transfusions are sometimes necessary to save the life of the mother after giving birth.

There will be exciting giveaways, activities for kids (make cards for Mother’s Day!), and support for moms and families from local maternal health organizations. Check out the event website for the latest news and be sure to make an appointment to donate blood that day! www.heroesformoms.com
