Join us for a free 3-class interactive workshop series on Diastasis Recti beginning on January 13th, 2017 at 2:30pm. The workshop will be held every other week on Fridays. The first class will be 1.5 hours, from 2:30-4pm.
In this workshop we will discuss Diastasis Recti from pregnancy all the way through postpartum recovery. Led by Dr. Ann Udofia, co-owner of Body Connect Health and Wellness, we will be tackling the facts as well as the myths and misconceptions behind this oftentimes ignored and undiagnosed issue.
As well as answering questions and leading the discussion our goal is to get our attendants started on a solid Diastasis Recti safe exercise regimen as well as show how physical therapy can help resolve this very common issue.
Please be aware that this class will be a more physical class that involves exercise, so please wear athletic clothes and leave baby at home, if at all possible!

The goal of this interactive, 60-minute presentation will be to educate participants in:
Anatomy and function of pelvic floor and transverse abdominal muscles through visual, verbal, and kinesthetic experience. Dysfunctions of the pelvic floor related to issues of weakness and/or tightness(i.e. stress and urge incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, dyspareunia, sexual dysfunction, urgency/frequency of urination, chronic constipation, pelvic pain, sacroiliac joint pain, low back pain, diastasis recti, symphasis pubis dysfunction.How to know when it is necessary to seek the treatment of a pelvic floor physical therapist. How to activate pelvic floor and abdominal muscles in order to maintain core strength and stability.How to relax overactive and painful muscles in the pelvic floor and abdomen.Appropriate strength training, both pre- and post-partum, for pelvic floor and abdominal muscles. Self-treatment techniques for tight and painful pelvic floor muscles.This presentation will include plenty of opportunities for questions and answers, and the presenters will provide a handout with strengthening and self-treatment exercises to address hip, low back, and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Washington DC Gluten-Free Expo @ Double Tree Bethesda Hotel

The Celiac Disease Program at Children’s National Health System and the Walter and Jean Boek Foundation invite you to attend the 2017 Washington DC Gluten-Free Education Day. This annual event brings the best of the gluten-free industry to Washington DC and features a full day of educational sessions with options for adults and kids as well as a cooking pavilion where attendees learn valuable nutritional lessons and tricks for cooking up delicious gluten-free meals. And, of course, time to interact with gluten-free food manufacturers, bakeries, and restaurants.

Local restaurants, bakeries, and national gluten-free food manufacturers sponsor meals and snacks throughout the day. The event is live streamed globally to capture an international audience. Attendees leave the event filled with knowledge, jam-packed goodie bags, and many new gluten-free friends.

The 2017 Washington DC Gluten-Free Education Day will feature two tracks: one for adults (ages 13+) and one for kids. The kid’s forum will be split into two groups: children ages 4-6 and ages 7-12. Please click here to view the agenda for the Kid’s Experience.

The Adult’s Forum features two keynote session, lunch, and three breakout session. Please select one option to attend for each breakout session. All sessions will be recorded and made available online for later viewing.

This fun, 5-day program empowers children to tune into their inner worlds. Humans are made up of mind, body, and spirit, yet in our society, children’s minds and bodies are nurtured, and their spirits are often neglected. This summer camp assists children to connect to their spirit, that wonderful essence that makes each child a unique, beautiful individual.

The curriculum includes mindfulness, yoga, the Law of Attraction, an attitude of gratitude, working with chakras, auras, affirmations, shamanic journeying, power animals, and many other topics. Each module is introduced using crafts, games, songs, and stories. The children have a fun-filled week while learning important self-nurturing techniques that will set them up for success as the grow. Before and after care available for an additional fee.

Pain during sex? A Physical Therapy guide to getting rid of pelvic pain after childbirth @ The Breastfeeding Center

Pain and/or discomfort with intercourse after childbirth is common and can be caused by several issues like pelvic floor muscle spasms(vaginismus), scar tissue adhesions, pudendal neuralgia, and joint (pelvic bones, coccyx, sacrum, lumbar spine) dysfunction. Join us for a 60-minute interactive workshop to learn more about how to self manage these issues and how pelvic floor physical therapy can help.

C- Section Scars: Problems and effective physical therapy solutions @ The Breastfeeding Center

Long term potential problems that arise from scar tissue adhesions after a caesarean section are often underestimated. Common complaints are of sensitivity at the site of the scar and discomfort with positional changes. However, the possible consequences don’t stop there. Back and pelvic pain, bladder issues, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation and even migraines and jaw pain are all common ailments associated with c-section scarring. The great news is that problems with c-section scars can be effectively treated. Join us for a 60-minute interactive workshop to learn more about solutions to scar tissue problems with pelvic floor physical therapy and myofascial release.

Educators, mental health professionals, parents, and yoga teachers are seeing the benefits of social emotional learning, physical movement, and wellness programs taught at all ages. The National Kids Yoga Conference unifies this work through an inspiring, collaborative, professional conference, which will propel our movement forward and deepen our impact.

As yoga teachers, moms, and community leaders we feel passionate about creating a conference so this remarkable community can come together in a professional learning environment. We have watched the practice of yoga transform our own lives, our families, and the students we serve. Inspired by transformation and the need to bring together like-minded teachers, leaders, and visionaries in the kids yoga world for collaboration and connection, the National Kids Yoga Conference was born.

The National Kids Yoga Conference was founded to create a space where inspired action, collective connection, and meaningful conversations towards implementing positive change in our communities and schools can happen in a professional learning forum.
