Hundreds Learn at 5th Annual School Environmental Action Showcase

The fifth annual NoVA Outside School Environmental Action Showcase (SEAS) brought over 500 students from public schools, private schools and homeschooling groups in Ablemarle County, Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, and Falls Church to George Mason University to learn and share about environmental stewardship. The event, which took place on April 6, 2016, was put on in partnership with George Mason University Potomac Environmental Research and Education Center. and GMU’s Office of Sustainability. Pre/Post Baby Event comes to Leesburg on May 7

Baby Talk: Pre/Post Baby Event is a first-time event for new and expectant parents that will take place at the Douglass Community Center in Leesburg on Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizer Jaclyn Perovich is a mom of two young boys who works in Northern Virginia as an Au Pair Consultant. Mindful Healthy Life had the chance to chat with Jaclyn to preview the event.

Un-Breaking Birth – Showing Up for the Birth Revolution at BirthKeeper Summit 2016

The BirthKeeper movement was created to use the power of individuals and organizations to create a platform in which to improve the beginning of life for human beings. The inaugural gathering took place in 2015, and organizers are bringing the movement this spring to Washington, DC with a series of events May 14-16 happening in conjunction with the Annual Clinical Meeting of ACOG, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. We’re two years old! Celebrate Earth Day and Mindful Healthy Life’s Anniversary

Mindful Healthy Life launched two years ago today, on Earth Day 2014. It’s been incredibly rewarding to share information with parents about holistic family living and to connect with so many terrific people, organizations and businesses. Thank you to all of our supporters and followers!

Through Mother’s Day, we’re going to be featuring a bunch of fun giveaways to commemorate our anniversary. We’vecover-image got a giveaway going now through Wednesday, April 27 for local mom Kerry Weleko’s If It Does Not Grow Say No activity book bundled with other mindfulness and nourishing activities. We’re excited to be showcasing a lot of great events this spring in our calendar, including Earth Day activities. Be sure to check out our terrific compilation, and add your events to the calendar, too! It’s free!

In addition to a lot of great content and a flurry of spring giveaways, we’re also taking our two-year anniversary as an opportunity to announce our forthcoming e-book and to roll out some new opportunities for collaboration.

fall: Guide to Holistic Family Living in Metro DC.

We want to ensure that this guide showcases all the great resources in our area to support families in their wellness journeys. We welcome collaborations with local parents, especially those in Maryland and DC.

Local Mom Releases “If It Does Not Grow, Just Say No” Activity Book + giveaway

Children will eat healthfully if they can have fun with it. I created If It Does Not Grow – Just Say No: Eatable Activities for Kids for children of all ages to discover how much fun they can have with fruits and vegetables. As a mom, I found myself getting frustrated in my goal to have my kids eat healthy foods. That’s when I started trying a fun approach to introducing my kids to fruits and vegetables. Read More

Let the children do yoga! Support YoKid this spring

The Alexandria-based non-profit organization YoKid has introduced yoga and mindfulness to more than 7,000 students since its inception in 2006. This spring, YoKid is looking to the community to for support for its programs through a special shopping night tonight, April 19 at the Alexandria Lululemon and an 18-hour Yogathon tomorrow, April 20, at Ease Yoga & Cafe in Del Ray Alexandria. Enjoy practicing yoga while raising funds for under-served youth to have the same privilege. Read More

Tuckahoe Elementary School shares its Discovery Garden

Tuckahoe Elementary hosted the February Arlington Public Schools (APS) School Garden Meetup with a presentation on bringing the outdoors into the classroom and winterizing an outdoor education program followed by a guided tour of the school’s award-winning Discovery Garden.
