The fifth annual NoVA Outside School Environmental Action Showcase (SEAS) brought over 500 students from public schools, private schools and homeschooling groups in Ablemarle County, Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, and Falls Church to George Mason University to learn and share about environmental stewardship. Baby Talk: Pre/Post Baby Event is a first-time event for new and expectant parents that will take place at the Douglass Community Center in Leesburg on Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizer Jaclyn Perovich is a mom of two young boys who works in Northern Virginia as an Au Pair Consultant. Loudoun County has created trading cards featuring local farmers! When I saw friends sharing images of these cards – like baseball cards, but of local farmers! – I had to find out the story behind how they came to be.
The BirthKeeper movement was created to use the power of individuals and organizations to create a platform in which to improve the beginning of life for human beings. The inaugural gathering took place in 2015, and organizers are bringing the movement this spring to Washington, DC with a series of events May 14-16 happening in conjunction with the Annual Clinical Meeting of ACOG, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The Alexandria-based non-profit organization YoKid has introduced yoga and mindfulness to more than 7,000 students since its inception in 2006. This spring, YoKid is looking to the community to for support for its programs through a special shopping night tonight, April 19 at the Alexandria Lululemon and an 18-hour Yogathon tomorrow, April 20, at Ease Yoga & Cafe in Del Ray Alexandria.
